3 Ways to Break Free From Boring Breakfast

Breakfast can be one of the most challenging meals of the day. You're getting ready for work, shuffling kids off to school, signing field trip permission slips, helping your spouse find the car keys, and twenty other tasks. Enjoying a stress-free morning meal is a luxury most people don't experience.
Health websites and publications tell us breakfast is the most important meal of the day. By breaking the fast, we are refueling our bodies and pumping the brain cells with much needed glucose. Think of eating breakfast as making certain your gas tank has enough fuel to get you to your destination.
Numerous scientific studies have shown that children who eat breakfast perform better in school. Studies have also shown seniors who eat nutritious breakfast can lower cholesterol and insulin levels. Even more important, eating breakfast can help shed unwanted pounds. With all the benefits of breakfast, why are so many people resistant to eating it?
For most, it's a matter of time. As mentioned earlier, people are super busy at the start of their day. The second most common reason for skipping breakfast is people find breakfast foods boring. If these are your reasons for skipping the most important meal of the day, the following tips might motivate you to roll out of bed 10 minutes earlier than usual so you can tantalize your taste buds.
The Easiest Breakfast in Town
If you've never tried a smoothie you're missing out. These tasty treats can be whipped up in a matter of minutes and are certain to please both young and elderly. The great thing about smoothies is they taste great, they are portable, and you can change them up every day.
The Internet is bursting with smoothie recipes. While most use fruit, you can easily make veggie smoothies. One of my favorite sources for smoothie recipes is SmoothieWeb.com. They have health smoothies, low fat smoothies, low carb smoothies, green smoothies, non-dairy smoothies and an entire section dedicated to breakfast smoothies.
Fruity Breakfast
A bowl of fresh fruit in the morning is quite refreshing. If you don't have time to sit down and eat, toss some fruit slices in a resealable plastic bag to eat on the go. While it's never a good idea to eat and drive, you can pop a few grapes in your mouth while sitting at a stop light. However, the ideal way to eat a fruity breakfast is sitting at a table.
Rather than make a fresh bowl of fruit each morning, make a batch of fruit salad. Depending on the types of fruit used, fruit salads will stay fresh in the fridge for a few days. Longer lasting fruits include: pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, grapes, mandarin oranges, pears, and cherries. One trick is to make a fruit salad with longer lasting fruits and add fruits that don't last long, such as bananas, apples, and mangos, when you're ready to consume.
Try adding Greek yogurt, granola, raisins, or nuts to fruit salads. Or, serve with a slice of toasted whole grain bread topped with almond butter or peanut butter. Top pancakes with fresh fruit instead of butter and syrup.
Vegetable Breakfast
Eating vegetables for breakfast is a great way to kick off the day and work toward eating the recommended daily allowance. All kinds of veggies can be added to omelets and scrambled eggs. Veggies can also be added to muffins, waffles, and pancakes.
Just as you wouldn't drive your car across town on an empty fuel tank, you shouldn't drive your body without breakfast. With a little planning, eating a healthy breakfast doesn't have to be a chore, nor boring. Fuel your body with fresh fruits and vegetables and you'll be rewarded with a clear brain and abundant energy throughout the day.
